José Grant became a pilot shortly after World War I, having been inspired by an uncle who was one of the first people to fly around the world. During World War II, he flew high-ranking military and political figures to their destinations as part of his job with TWA, and when the war ended, he became the personal pilot of the king of Saudi Arabia. At 101 years old, he continued to fly small planes—though not alone. In addition to flying, he had a passion for making jewelry, specifically puzzle rings, and had his own business for more than 60 years, where, at 101, he still worked. His puzzle rings are works of art and can be seen at www.josegrantpuzzlerings.com.
