Susan Pagel

Susan Pagel joined Phelan Webber Pettis in September 2018. As Executive Director, Susan is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the law firm while also managing Human Resources, office policies, issues, and procedures. Susan works closely with the firm owners to increase productivity and efficiency to meet or surpass client expectations and to maximize resources to increase firm profitability and meet established goals.

A die-hard native of Colorado, Susan and her husband relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 2001 for her husband’s new job. Prior to moving to Washington State, Susan enjoyed a 15-year career as a secondary Language Arts and theater/speech teacher in both private and public school settings.

Susan considers herself to be a life-long learner and enjoys a variety of continuing education pursuits. Following graduation from high school in Denver, Susan earned her BA degree from Northwestern College as a Theater/Speech major, followed by a Certificate of Paralegal Studies from Denver Paralegal Institute. Susan also acquired skills in court reporting and editing/scoping while attending the College of Legal Arts in Portland.

Following her teaching career and move to the Vancouver area, Susan managed accounts and customer service departments for local alarm and low-voltage data companies, where she acquired some valuable IT aptitude (“When all else fails, reboot!”). These skills proved indispensable when Susan accepted an office administrative position at Southwest Washington Workforce Development Council in 2009 (dba Workforce Southwest Washington), where Susan spent nearly ten years as office manager, executive assistant, and eventually HR manager for the organization (and yes, ad-hoc IT support!).

When not working or attending school, Susan enjoys the great outdoors via long walks, hiking, kayaking, bike riding, photography, and spending quiet time on the trail with her little guy, Albert, in his favorite front pack. Susan and her husband Rick can often be found exploring the region’s magnificent vineyards and wineries on the weekends.
